Geraint Howell Thomas, OBE is a Welsh professional racing cyclist who currently rides for UCI WorldTeam Ineos Grenadiers, Wales and Great Britain, competing on both track and road. Like older compatriot and teammate on both track and road, Bradley Wiggins, he is one of the few riders in the modern era to achieve significant elite success as both a track and road rider, including winning three World Championships (2007, 2008, and 2012), two Olympic gold medals (2008 and 2012), together with famously winning the 2018 Tour de France, the first Welsh and British-born rider to do so.
Born in Birchgrove, Cardiff, Thomas attended Whitchurch High School. His successful cycling career began at Maindy Velodrome with the Maindy Flyers Cycling Club at the age of 10, where he rode with future Team Sky teammate Luke Rowe, before going on to ride for other local clubs, Cycling Club Cardiff and Cardiff Just in Front.

In 2019 a 74-metre permanent mural spanning the Maindy cycling track was unveiled in honour of Geraint Thomas winning the 2018 Tour de France. School children from around Cardiff have been involved in the making of the mural. The mural was unveiled at the 'Yellow Jersey Festival' which saw more than 150 schoolchildren from around Cardiff perform music and dance inspired by Thomas at the track where he started his career.
